MSEDCL Cuts Electricity in Pune: In a major crackdown on unpaid electricity bills, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has disconnected power to 51,735 defaulters across the Pune division over the last 35 days. The outstanding electricity bills in different districts of the Pune division are as follows: Pune District: ₹199.99 crore. Solapur: ₹44.07 crore. Sangli: ₹24.95 crore. Kolhapur: ₹20.80 crore. Satara: ₹20.40 crore
In Pune district alone, power was disconnected for 42,073 consumers due to unpaid electricity bills.The total pending amount in Pune district is spread across different consumer categories: Domestic Consumers: 6,79,378 consumers owe ₹134.34 crore. Commercial Consumers: 79,418 consumers owe ₹45.12 crore. Industrial Consumers: 11,815 consumers owe ₹20.79 crore.
To prevent electricity theft, MSEDCL has deployed special teams to monitor illegal reconnections. Consumers caught stealing electricity may face legal action under Sections 135 and 138 of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003. Violators could be subjected to penalties or criminal charges.
Senior MSEDCL officials, including Pune Regional Director Bhujang Khandare and Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar, are actively overseeing the recovery process. Consumers are encouraged to clear outstanding electricity bills to avoid power disconnection and legal consequences. Payments can be made online via the MSEDCL website or mobile app. Consumers with bills exceeding ₹5,000 are advised to use RTGS or NEFT for smooth transactions.
