A special committee, led by the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), has directed district collectors to survey and map fast-growing villages. Officials will submit their reports by the end of March, helping the government identify nearly 100 urban growth centers across Maharashtra. Many villages on city outskirts are expanding rapidly due to rising population and real estate development. However, they often lack basic facilities like proper roads, drainage, and public services. The mapping project will help integrate these regions into future urban planning efforts.
Unplanned growth leads to poor infrastructure, overcrowding, and environmental issues. With a structured plan, the state aims to improve public services and control haphazard expansion. A government official stated, “This initiative will help us ensure balanced urban development and prevent future infrastructure challenges.”
By mapping rapid urban expansion, authorities can plan better transport, housing, and public utilities. This move is expected to create well-connected, sustainable urban centers instead of chaotic, unplanned townships. As BJP’s New Policy continues to urbanize, this initiative marks an important step toward organized and efficient growth. The success of this project could set an example for other states facing similar challenges.
