During Wednesday’s review meeting with Pune officials, Pawar emphasized immediate action on the project, which is estimated to cost between ₹250-300 crore. The ambitious plan includes a 16-story commercial complex featuring two basement parking levels and a semi-basement for retail outlets. The ground floor will house the bus stop, while the second floor will serve as the terminal.
To expedite the project, Pawar has instructed officials to prepare a 99-year agreement proposal for cabinet approval, aimed at attracting high-quality developers. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) have been directed to work collaboratively to ensure swift project completion.
The development comes at a crucial time, as the current temporary depot at Wakdewadi faces criticism from passengers over poor infrastructure, particularly during monsoons. The project builds upon a 2019 land allocation agreement between MSRTC and Maha-Metro for the Shivajinagar underground metro station.
While local MLA Siddharth Shirole had announced an impending MoU between Maha-Metro and MSRTC in August last year, the agreement remains unsigned after seven months. The review meeting also addressed plans for the Swargate bus stand’s redevelopment, signaling a broader initiative to modernize Pune’s transport infrastructure. (Shivajinagar Bus Depot)
