The Paper 1 (BE/BTech) exam was conducted on January 22, 23, 24, and 28, with the final session scheduled for Wednesday. The exam is held in two shifts—morning and afternoon. During visits to the exam centre on January 24 and 28, students and parents expressed frustration over the traffic woes they encountered on their way.
The exam centre is located approximately 1.5 km off the Pune-Solapur highway in the Ramtekdi industrial area, where thousands of students appear in each shift. The approach road passes through the densely populated JCC Colony slum, where a large number of private vehicles dropping off students led to severe traffic jams. As a result, many students had to abandon their vehicles and walk to the centre, adding to the stress of an already crucial examination.
A JEE aspirant from Solapur shared, “I had to walk nearly a kilometer from Ramtekdi Road to the exam centre because of the heavy traffic.” Similarly, Pratyusha Naik, another candidate, said, “Due to congestion, my parents had to park the car far away, and I had to walk 500-600 meters to reach the centre.”
Vijay Pawar, who had accompanied a relative for the exam, stated, “I was stuck in traffic for at least 30-45 minutes before finally parking my vehicle and walking to the venue. Authorities should restrict other vehicles during exam hours to avoid such chaos.”
An official from the National Testing Agency (NTA) at the exam centre commented, “Traffic management is beyond our jurisdiction. Our responsibility is to ensure a smooth and error-free examination process. Like everyone else, we too are affected by the heavy congestion.”
With ongoing concerns over accessibility to the exam centre, students and parents are urging authorities to take necessary measures to prevent similar issues in the future. (Pune Traffic Chaos)
