Only four infiltrators have been found to be from Bangladesh, and Pune police are facing challenges in deporting them back to their country. Further, in the past five years, the police have arrested 252 infiltrators. This includes three from Pakistan, 20 from Thailand, 12 from the US, five from South Sudan, and 35 from other countries who were residing in Pune without valid visas or after their visas had expired.
Speaking to media, the police said that citizens from Yemen and Uganda come to the city under the pretext of medical treatment, while Nigerians come for education. After their visas expire, they continue to reside in the city. The police are taking action against such individuals. It has also come to light that agents teach these infiltrators the national anthem to avoid detection by the police. On January 16, Swargate police arrested a Bangladeshi citizen who had been residing illegally in the country since 2004. Seven Aadhaar cards, seven PAN cards, four passports, Pakistani currency, and currencies of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Malaysia were seized from him.
