The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to auction 2,000 properties due to over Rs 200 crore in unpaid property tax arrears. This move is part of intensified efforts to recover outstanding dues and address its growing revenue shortfall.
The properties identified for auction include residential, commercial, and industrial units whose owners have failed to clear long-pending tax liabilities despite multiple reminders. The officials stated that the auction process will begin shortly, aiming to recover significant dues to fund civic infrastructure and services.
The Commissioner Vikram Kumar emphasized the importance of timely tax payments, warning defaulters of strict action. “Property tax is a vital revenue source for the corporation. The unpaid arrears affect the city’s development projects,” he said.
The corporation had earlier issued notices to defaulters, urging them to settle their dues, but the response remained lukewarm. With over Rs 200 crore still unpaid, the organization is now taking a stringent approach to enforce compliance.

The properties set for auction will undergo legal scrutiny to ensure a transparent and fair process. Officials clarified that the auction is a last-resort measure to recover the mounting arrears.
This development has created a stir among property owners in Pune, with many rushing to clear outstanding amounts to avoid losing their assets. The auction highlights PMC’s firm stance on tackling tax defaulters while safeguarding the city’s financial health.
