Concerns Raised About Worker’s Safety
Pune Construction Site Tragedy : A construction worker tragically lost his life after falling from the seventh floor of a building under construction in the Baner area of Pune. The project was being undertaken by M&T Constructions. This incident has once again brought to light the issue of safety for construction workers.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on December 10th. The building is named ‘Vrindanand Bliss’ and is a project of M&T Constructions. A worker named Ajit Baghale (aged 25, originally from Chhattisgarh, currently was residing in Pune at the construction site) died in this incident. The worker had gone to the seventh floor of the building to do plastering work in the morning. While working, he fell from the seventh floor. He suffered multiple fractures and a severe head injury. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by fellow workers and others present at the site. However, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries around 3:30 PM.
No one at the construction site informed the police about the worker’s fall. The doctors informed the police after admitting the patient. The police later visited the scene and registered a case. In this matter, a case has been registered against builder Uttam Makwana, contractor Raju Vitlav, site engineer Sagar Pawar, and project manager Paresh Raghawani. Baner police are investigating the case.
Pune’s MSME Sector Poised for Growth in 2025 : Job Growth on the Horizon
Builders earn crores of rupees through the construction of residential projects. But while these buildings rise, countless workers lose their lives. Whose lives are lost and what do the builders lose? Who is responsible for these workers? The answer to these questions remains unanswered even today. Ajit Baghel, a 25-year-old youth, came to Pune from Chhattisgarh a few days ago in search of livelihood, only to fall from the seventh floor of a building and lose his life. Why does the body of this young man take a week to reach his village? Can anyone imagine the plight of his family who sent their young son out to earn a living, only to receive his dead body?
It is the responsibility of the concerned builder and contractor to ensure the safety of the workers. The labor laws also have provisions for this. However, for many years, it has been found that these laws are not strictly implemented. This is why such incidents happen frequently.
