Kolhapur violence: The aftermath of violence in Kolhapur, Maharashtra continues to unfold, with police taking action and political tensions rising. Police have arrested 36 people, including two minors, in connection with the incident. To prevent the spread of rumors, the administration has shut down internet services in the area and imposed Section 144.

Kolhapur’s Superintendent of Police, Mahendra Pandit, reported that the situation in the city and district has normalized since yesterday afternoon. Four SRPF companies, 300 police constables, and 60 officers have been deployed in the area.

Notably, former Maharashtra minister and Congress MLC Satej Patil had warned about the possibility of communal violence a week ago. He mentioned that Kolhapur has been facing communal issues for the past two months, based on information from his party workers.

Origin of the Kolhapur Violence:
The violence erupted on Tuesday (June 6, 2023) when some youths shared social media posts supporting Aurangzeb. The next day, local people allegedly posted controversial audio messages with a picture of Tipu Sultan. This led to political and social organizations organizing protests. During the protest, stone-pelting began, which escalated the situation and spread violence in the area.
