Region-wise Results of Maharashtra: BJP Strengthens Hold in Konkan-Vidarbha, Makes Inroads into Sharad Pawar’s Stronghold
Mumbai : Region-wise Results of Maharashtra : The Maharashtra Assembly election results have come and BJP-led Mahayuti has taken a big lead with around 220 seats out of 288. Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi seemed significantly behind. People are also focusing on the region-wise results from November 23. During the election, all parties made strategies according to regions and campaigned accordingly. The results are gradually showing whose efforts are bearing fruit.
Let’s see how the region-wise results of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections have turned out, how it was compared to 2019, who got more seats in which region, and who faced setbacks where?
How many regions are there in Maharashtra?
After Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, Maharashtra has the most assembly seats in the country. Maharashtra, with 288 assembly seats, is politically divided into five regions. Power equations are made and broken based on these regions. These include Vidarbha, Marathwada, Western Maharashtra, Konkan, and North Maharashtra.
Current State-wide Results:
In the 2024 assembly elections, the main contest was between two major alliances. First is the BJP-Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit faction) alliance, which currently forms the government. The opposition alliance includes Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena (UBT). In the 288-member assembly, BJP appears to be winning the most seats at 126. BJP’s ally Shiv Sena is getting 54 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP is winning 38 seats. Thus, this alliance appears to be winning 221 seats total, which is well above the majority mark of 145. The Maha Vikas Aghadi might get 54 seats.
Region-wise Results:
Western Maharashtra: Western Maharashtra region is considered the most important in terms of seats. One-fourth of the total assembly seats in the state come from Western Maharashtra. That is, 58 out of 288 seats are from Western Maharashtra region. These seats are from Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune and Solapur districts. In the last assembly elections, Congress and undivided Nationalist Congress Party dominated. In the 2019 elections, out of the total 58 seats in Western Maharashtra, NCP led by Sharad Pawar won the maximum 21 seats. This time Sharad Pawar-led NCP has got only 5 seats, while Ajit Pawar faction has got 12 seats. BJP had won 17 seats which has increased to 24 seats this time. Congress has got only 1 seat in Western Maharashtra this time, while last time 10 MLAs of the party had won from here.
Konkan: Palghar, Thane, Mumbai suburbs, Mumbai city, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg districts are included in Konkan. BJP-Shiv Sena has been successful in retaining its stronghold in this region. Out of 75 seats in Mumbai and Konkan region, BJP has won the maximum 32 seats which was 27 last time. Last time Shiv Sena under the leadership of Uddhav had won 29 seats which has come down to 9 seats this time. Eknath Shinde’s party has got 23 seats. NCP had won 6 seats, Congress had won 4 seats which is 2-2 respectively this time. Apart from this, others have got 4 seats.
Vidarbha: This region plays a crucial role in determining political parties’ fortunes. Vidarbha comprises 11 districts, including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal. In the 2019 elections, out of Vidarbha’s total 62 seats, BJP won 29 seats, which has now increased to 34. Congress had 15 seats, which has decreased to 11. Sharad Pawar’s NCP won 6 seats previously but has now been reduced to 1 seat. Uddhav’s Shiv Sena won 4 seats and has maintained the same number this time. Meanwhile, Shinde’s Shiv Sena has secured 5 seats.
Marathwada: This is Maharashtra’s fourth-largest region. Marathwada includes the districts of Aurangabad, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, and Parbhani. In the 2024 assembly elections, BJP won 15 seats, slightly down from their previous 16. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, which had won 12 seats earlier, has now been reduced to 4 seats. Eknath Shinde has won 12 seats here. Congress, which had 8 seats, has now been reduced to just 2. Additionally, 2 MLAs from other parties have been elected.
North Maharashtra: Though this is Maharashtra’s smallest region in terms of seats, parties strive to secure maximum seats here. North Maharashtra includes the districts of Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, and Nashik. This region has a total of 47 assembly seats. In 2019, out of the total 47 seats, BJP won 16 seats, which has now increased to 19. Sharad Pawar’s NCP, which won 13 seats earlier, has now been reduced to 1 seat. Ajit Pawar’s party has won 11 seats. Congress won 7 seats previously, now reduced to 3. Uddhav’s Shiv Sena has dropped from 6 seats to 0, while Eknath Shinde’s faction has won 9 seats. Other parties have succeeded in winning five seats.
