9 Months – 14 Days in Space : Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has arrived from her space mission after 9 months, 14 days. Along with her, Butch Wilmore has also returned. They made a successful landing on the coast of Florida on March 19th, 2025. The SpaceX Crew-9 returned to Earth with both astronauts. The journey from the space station to Earth took 17 hours. Both the NASA astronauts were on 8-days’ space mission. But due to technical issues, they stuck in space for 9 Months – 14 Days in space. When their capsule landed in water, there were dolphins in a huge numbers around them, as if they were welcoming them. Watch the video off their landing :
The recovery vessel successfully pulled the capsule out of the water. The capsule’s side hatch was opened for the first time since September. The astronauts finally exited the capsule and were taken to Houston for a 45-day rehabilitation program.
Crew-9 departed from the International Space Station early in the morning at 10:35 am (local time). Others on the International Station gave them a final farewell with hugs. NASA shared a video of the spacecraft separating from the space station. After several delays, the Dragon spacecraft carrying the relief team reached the space station on Sunday.
PM Modi writes to Sunita Williams
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to Sunita Williams inviting her to visit India. The letter, written on March 1 and sent through former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, was shared on X by Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh.
PM Modi has written in the letter that even though you are thousands of miles away, you are close to our hearts. The people of India are praying for your good health and success in your mission. PM further said that after your return, we look forward to meeting you in India. It will be a pleasure for India to host one of its most wonderful daughters.
