25 KM Long Traffic Jam : As the Maha Shivaratri festival approaches, a massive influx of devotees has flooded the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, making the final bathing day on February 26 even more significant. The fervor for taking a holy dip at the Sangam (the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the Sarasvati river) has led to heavy crowds at the site. With the end of the Mela approaching on February 23, many people rushed to take part in this spiritual event on the last weekend before the conclusion.

A significant number of devotees have reached the Kumbh Mela using personal vehicles, causing a 25-kilometer long traffic jam. Vehicles are crawling along the highway, with the jam causing the most inconvenience to the older people, children, and women. The roads are packed, creating a chaotic scene as devotees try to reach the sacred site for their spiritual bath.
Police Administration on High Alert, Drone Surveillance in Place –
To manage the situation, the police administration has been working tirelessly. IG of Prayagraj Zone, Prem Gautam, SP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, and ASP Rajesh Singh, along with a heavy police force, have been deployed to regulate traffic on the highways. The police are also using drone surveillance to monitor and ensure safety, as well as to control the flow of traffic effectively. Diversion Plan and Parking Arrangements –
To manage the heavy traffic, a diversion plan has been implemented by the authorities. Vehicles are being directed from Kokhraj Bypass to Fafamau Bela Kashar parking, ensuring that pilgrims can reach the Kumbh site with ease and carry out their holy dip without major delays. Special parking arrangements have also been made to accommodate the large number of vehicles.
Over 60 Crore Devotees Have Taken the Sacred Dip –
As of now, over 60 crore devotees have participated in the holy bath at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela. This overwhelming turnout highlights the success of the event and the massive scale of participation in the spiritual gathering. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the favorable environment that contributed to the significant number of attendees, with more than 60 crore pilgrims having visited the Mela to take the sacred dip in 2025.
